What Causes Blood In His Urine After Taking Vancomycin

My 56 year old brother has c-diff. They started him on Flagyl which he did not tolerate(Nausea and vomiting). He now has been taking vancomycin liquid for 3 days and just started passing blood in his urine. Could this be related to vancomycin. He has no pain with urinating except maybe a occasional slight tingle with urinating.

Hello,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Yes, bloody urine can be caused by Vancomycin. Also other side effects like bladder pain, decreased urine, fever or frequent urge to urinate may occur.

However his symptoms may be caused by urinary tract infection(UTI) so I suggest you to make a urine test to rule out UTI.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
