What Causes Blood In Coughed Up Mucus?

Hi My name is Therese. My husband has a heart condition has stints. he s had a cold with a bad cough and just this pass weekend he had we think was food poison, from a lunch wagon he ate pork burritto. he just told me he has coughed up blood last couple of weeks, not everyday seldom and it is not thick. is this something I need to be concerned about.

Coughing up blood is not a good sign. There are two possibilities. First, severe irritation of throat resulting in blood with mucus. Second, lung cancer. I would suggest you to visit hospital for detailed checkup and workup.
