What Causes Blood And Mucus In My Stool?

I had blood and mucus in my stool three weeks ago. I went to the doc and said I had amoebas. Gave me medicine for that and two days later no more blood. However, two days after I stopped taking my meds(as prescribed bc I was to take 2 pills 3xa day for 7days) I noticed I still had blood in my stool. So now I don't know what's going on. Also, my right arm and occasionally the left arm go numb from time to time especially when I'm sleeping. I don't know what's going on. If anyone could help or has any answers that would be very helpful.

Hi
I appreciate your concern. Blood and mucus in stools can be due to various causes like:-
1. Haemorrhoids which also causes pain and fresh bleed in stools with mass protruding out of anal region.
2. Anal Fissures which presents with pain in anal region during passing stools with bleeding.
3. Red, bloody stools may be a sign of a further serious problem like inflammatory bowel disease such as Cohn's disease or ulcerative colitis
4. Dysentery can present with diarrhea with mucus and blood in stools with fever and abdominal pain.
So the treatment depends upon the underlying etiology.Try taking semisolid or liquid diet . Take plenty of fluids and maintain good hydration.I think you should get your blood investigations alongwith stool examination to look into the cause. Also it would be better if you see your doctor ,who can do a detailed physical and local examination.
Numbness might be due to dehydration or electrolyte imbalance. So take plenty of fluids .Try taking electrolyte rich fluids.
