What Causes Bleeding In Ear?

My 2.5 year old had a bad ear infection and took 5 days of azithromycin. Took her back because of continued pain. Dr. couldnt see anything but my daughter was screaming bloody murder she was in so much pain, so the Dr. assumed a ear canal infection and prescribed ciprodex drops for a week. That week just ended yesterday and last night i tried to clean her ear with a qtip (gently) and blood was on the qtip. Same thing happened again tonight with more blood. There is no blood on the outer ear, just when i barely put it in her ear. Can i wait until a week from now to take her to her scheduled follow up or is this cause for serious concern? Thanks!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain slight bleeding from ear when there is ear infection is not abnormal finding as due to ear infection there is inflammation in the lining of the ear canal and as an inflamed tissue bleeds with slight stimulation, there can be blood on the q-tip due to ear infection..
Other causes of pain in ear can be any foreign body impaction, excess wax buildup, excess cold and sinus infection can also cause secondary ear infection..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and otoscopic examination can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
As of now you can continue putting Ciprodex ear drops as well as give her Ibuprofen to relieve pain..
You can also avoid excess water exposure to ears as well as well as avoid picking the ears as it can cause eardrum injury if penetrated deeply.

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
