What Causes Bleeding During Sex?

Hi Doc, I am female 42 yrs old. Had 2 kids age 12 and 10. for the last year i noticed that I am bleeding during sex. It kinda frighten my boyfriend. and It happened rather often but not all the time....like 50 percent of the time. I prob have sex 3-5 times a week. BTW can it be due to my IUD ??? I had it changed last year...and before I changed it I was bleeding too...thinking it has been 5 yrs and it could be the cause....but after changing it I still bleed..Why?

hi dear,
there are many reasons for bleeding during sex like inadequate lubrication, infection, IUD, withdrawal bleeding, etc..
as you changed IUD and still bleeding that means it is not due to that likely.
May be at this age your hormones decreased and so lubrication not occur properly and so cause itching and bleeding.
sometimes due to infection also bleeding occur but other symptoms there like urgency and frequency of urine, low grade fever, itching, whitish discharge etc..
consult gynecologist for detail history and examination.
Thank you
