What Causes Bleeding During Pregnancy?

Hello Docs! I am 20 years old and am pregnant with my first child. I have so many concerns. I recently went to the doc to confirm my pregnancy and I was 8 wks 6 days then, now I am 9 wks 2 days if everything is okay in there (fingers crossed). However, I do have one concern that has been bugging me for a while now. This week, the day I went to get my pregnancy confirmed, I experienced some bleeding (red), but only one time and not enough to fill a pad. So far, I have not had any abdominal pain and have not seen anymore red blood. All I have seen is brown discharge, which is what I have been seeing since December of 2013, so is this normal during early pregnancy? My breast are still tender and I am very tired at times. Luckily, I do not get morning sickness, so that is a blessing :) Can someone help me or give me advice? Oh, and by the way, I have an U/S scheduled for 01/13/14.

Dear madam,I understand your concern. In my opinion though brown discharge is not normal in pregnancy .It might be from cervix or any hormonal imbalance .If the ultrasound shows everything normal, you need not worry. In that case brown discharge might be due to slight bleeding from cervix due to erosion or increased vascularity.Better you take rest and avoid physical or mental strain.consult your gynae as you might need hormones as supportive treatment.relax.mostly this kind of cases might continue and have normal outcome.
