What Causes Black Stool And Abdominal Pain?

I have had black stools and black diarrhea since yesterday morning. I ve had 5-6 bouts of very liquid, black bowel movements and 2-3 episodes of small black stools. I haven t eaten other than a banana since Monday night because my stomach just doesn t feel good, like stomach flu. I have slight pain in the center of my abdomen, just below my breastbone. How long should I wait before I see my doc?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
You should see your Doctor immediately for a reason that black stools indicate that there is an active bleeding somewhere in the intestinal tract and hence a clinical evaluation, examination and investigations as mentioned below should be done:
Upper GI Endoscopy.
Tests of stool for routine and occult blood.
Ultrasonography and CT scan of abdomen with contrast if needed.
Tests of blood for CBC, to see for anemia, liver and kidney function, Dengue, Tumor markers.
Clinical evaluation by a Gastroenterologist for proper diagnosis and proper management.
All these together will lead to a proper diagnosis and management.
