What Causes Black Bowel Movement After Gallbladder Removal?
Hello, My partner had his gallbladder out in December. He has had nothing but problems since. We have found out that he has PCS at his last visit to A&E. but is having runny black stools which has been going on for a few weeks. He is now eating small meals as he lost his appetite but I'm getting him to drink plenty of water. He is being sick and is very lethargic all the time so is sleeping lots. Please can you advise Thank you
** Thanks for raising your concern and after reviewing your case history I'm of the following opinion:
1. are you taking any iron supplements or bismuth preparation which can cause black stools 2. chronic diarrhea is a complication with PCS but if they are black and you have ruled out every dietary/medicine possibility then it will be wise to see a Gastroenterologist for colonoscopy and stool for occult blood.
PS. blood mixed stool indicates either some intestinal problem, injury or infection, as such see your attending doctor immediately since it requires a proper examination and evaluation.
3. If vitals are abnormal [lethargic, sleeping a lot, lost appetite] then immediate admission is needed 4.
