What Causes Belching And Back Pain?

Hello, I have for 4-6 days been experiencing lots of belching; usually worse in the morning, but usually exacerbated when I eat anything. Earlier in the week, I had taken some psyllium husk, which I understand can cause bloating and gas. If it is from the psyllium, how long would this take to work itself out of my system? Secondly, I have been experiencing lower back pain; but only when I try to bend down; for example to tie my shoes or pick something off of the floor. This is why I actually took the psyllium, because in the past I have had similar back pain when constipated. So also curious if the two issues, the belching and the back pain may be related. That make any sense?? Thanks so much

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possibly the psyllium husk, as you mentioned, because fiber can cause an increase in bloating and belching.

It can take a few days (usually three to five) , for this to be resolved. If this time frame has passed then there may be another cause such as :(A) GERD- this is common and the use of reflux medication plus diet changes may help

Reflux meds such as protonix, nexium, prilosec, prevacid , would be best.

(b)other aspects of diet eg broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, turnips, beans, carbonated drinks, prunes

In terms of the belching and the back pain, they are not likely related though as you stated, back pain can occur with constipation.

The back pain may be due muscle strain or injury. Rest and the use of warm compresses may help this.
A muscle relaxant would help if there is any muscle spasm.

If it persists, then you may need to see your doctor.

I hope this helps
