Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, my 7 years old son still continues to bed wet heavily every night, he is usually wet within the first couple of hours of his sleep. He never realised he's wet and it does not wake him. I've tried everything my local health care professionals have advised but sadly he is still wetting. Could it be some kind of deep sleep disorder? Please advise and possible help or treatment. Thank you MZ
Hi, Thanks for using healthcare magic. I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
Bed wetting is common in this age group and its a normal thing. In most cases kids stop bed wetting when they reach around nine years. It is seen during the stages of deep sleep but not generally considered as sleep disorder. Psychological therapy shows far better results than drugs.Do not scold or punish the child.Dont make him feel ashamed.Keep on motivating,Give him small gifts when he completes a dry night.keep a diary to monitor his progress.
You can also try simple measures like taking him to bathroom just before his bed time.Avoid carbonated drinks. Don't give him any liquids about 30 - 45 minutes before his bedtime.
If all these doesn't work take him to a pediatrician specialized in child psychology and may require some behavioral therapy including alarm device and rarely drug therapy.
I hope this information helps. With regards
Dr.Shinas Hussain
