What Causes Bad Odored Yellowish Vaginal Discharge?

Hi I have a yellow discharge with a stronge smell. These are the only symptoms. I have been treating it as a yeast infection. Over the counter medications not helping. I am 52, going through menapause. Have not had a period for 2 years. I need to use liberation to have sex (dryness)????

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that yellow discharge with a strong smell can be most probably due to Bacterial Infection known as Bacterial Vaginosis..

It does not look like yeast infection as it represents as thick white vaginal discharge and is generally associated with itching and redness..

Consult a Gynaecologist and get evaluated, she can also advise a vaginal swab culture and specific tests like Whiff test to confirm the diagnosis and also eliminate other causes and provide cause specific treatment.

In case of bacterial infection or Bacterial Vaginosis you can be advised:
1. Antibiotics like Metronidazole that is mainline treatment to resolve bacterial infection..
2. Abstain from sex till the infection resolves.
3.You should put pantyliners to avoid soiling your panties if the discharge is continuous as the panties can cause re-infection..
4.You should wear loose fitting and cotton clothes..
5.Maintain proper hygiene..
