What Causes Backache And Lower Abdominal Pain After Taking Norethisterone?

I am 26 yrs old female. We are TTC and I skipped my period last month. It is 14 days late now. I saw a doc, she did my blood HCG test which came out to be negative. I also had the pukish feeling all the time and some sort of indigestion. She said it has nothing to do with pregnancy and it was a digestive problem. She suggested me Norethisterone acetate 10 mg tablet thrice a day for 5 days inorder to have my period and gave me some syrup for indigestion and omperezole capsules. It is my third day of medication and I have severe backache and my lower abdomen hurts on left and right side, most probably the ovaries. It hurts when i touch these. Please advise what i should do and can i still be pregnant and if yes is this medicine harmful?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

HCG hormone is released during pregnancy, the levels increase as pregnancy progresses.

It is normally detectable in urine by day 11 to 14 after conception but it is detectable in the blood before this point.
If this length of time has passed since possible conception then this should have been picked up by pregnancy test.

If you do not think that this time has passed, then you can repeat the test at a later date.

If you are truly not pregnant, then your doctor may want to asses for other causes of delayed period.

The other causes of delayed period are: (1) thyroid disease
(2)emotional stress or illness
(3)high levels of a hormone called prolactin
(4)physical illness
(5)side effect of medication
(6)polycystic ovarian syndrome

The medication norethisterone is commonly used to help with problems related to the period and is generally safe.

I hope this helps
