What Causes Anemia In A Hodgkin S Lymphoma Survivor?

my daughter had classical hodgkins lymphoma stage 2 , had 12 chemo treatments, was cleared of the ca, then became pregnaqnt and had a healthy baby-3months old now. She is now anemic and will be having blood? transfusion or packed red blood cells?? does this mean she still has hodgkins?

1. As your daughter is cleared of cancer and also delivered a healthy baby, thus taking into account the history and symptom, I'm of the following opinion

i. Anemia is a manageable side effect of Hodgkin's lymphoma and may occur either as direct result of cancer or more commonly a side effect of cancer treatment [both the causes are present]

PS. as transfusion is suggested thus you must have been briefed with associated risks of infection, rejection and medical costs.

ii. It is suggested that one of the factors which limit the ability of the marrow to produce hemoglobin in the anemia of Hodgkin’s disease may be a relative hypoferremia caused by a defect in the mobilization of iron from tissue stores.

PS. It is wise to consult a Hematologist for complete blood picture and only if associated symptoms of Hodgkin's like lymph nodes in the groin/neck/ armpits began to swell, along with fatigue, fever & chills one may require re-evaluation, so remain under regular supervision and observation
