Pericardial effusion, and Pleural effusion are the two conditions that you mentioned in your query. Both of them are due to inflammation, infection, irritation, some autoimmune disease process and may other reasons. He must have gone through Pericardiocentesis and pleural tap procedures and taken out a fluid of 900ml. This is the best treatment option along with anti inflammatory medications and antibiotics (if needed).
