What Causes Accelerating Jaundice After Medication?

Hi,<last week my 4yrs/Female kid was diagnosed with Jaundice, total bilirubin was 10.8 (8x + 2x), she has been talking medicine for 10 days now, a second blood report showed bilirubin total to be 32.x. Is it high? Is it serious? What count will be dangerous? our pediatrician said today 'jandice is high', it will increase before coming down something like that. After a week of taking medicine, jaundice getting higher doesn't not make sense to me. How is it possible? Can please some give some advise? Thanks.

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query.

Jaundice is usually sign of certain liver disease and high bilirubin value. Causes of jaundice vary from non-serious to more complciated- High bilirubin may be due to liver diseases such as cirrhosis or hepatitis, infections, medications, o rblockage of the bile duct In the developed world the cause is more often blockage of the bile duct or medications. In childern, common causes are Gilberts disease or hepatitic viral. Medical imaging such as ultrasound is useful for detecting certain liver issues.
Treatment of jaundice is typically determined by the underlying cause. If a bile duct blockage is present surgery is typically required, otherwise management is medical.[Medical management may involve treating infectious causes and stopping medication that could be contributing.
