What Causes Absence Of Periods Along With Swollen Stomach?

Hi, I m 47 years old. I have not had a period since Jan. 27, and my stomach is swollen. For several hours yesterday, my lower abdomen seemed to be sort of undulating on its own, continuously. I did a home pregnancy test, and the results were negative. Because of my age, I would assume my periods are just ending, but until last month, I have been extremely regular. The sudden swelling/weight gain and weird movements of my stomach have me a bit concerned. Today, there is also a bit of burning sensation directly behind my navel. What could this be? Thanks very much, Sally

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that the period delay is due to perimenopause though pregnancy is also possible if your periods were previously regular if you are not using consistent contraception at the moment.

A pregnancy test at day 11 to 14 after conception would be accurate.

Increased size of the abdomen may be related to bloating in some persons and abnormal movements of the muscles may cause the movements.

I hope this helps
