What Causes Abnormal Pap Test Results During Menopause?

I had an abnormal Pap. I had LSIL, but my hpv test was negative. I was told to repet Pap test in 6 months.I am 44 years old and lately going into manopouse. Could my LSIL be related to it or it is still a chance that these could be precancerous cells?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

Abnormal pap results may be caused by various causes such as sexual transmitted infections ( chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, herpes, human papilloma virus), trauma, allergy, etc

LOW-GRADE SQUAMOUS LESION (LSIL) is Pap test shows mild cellular changes. This tests show that you have less pre cancerous features in pap smear. But it can progress to precancerous lesion.

First you should be checked for Human papilloma virus (HPV).
If test is positive for HPV, you are advised colposcopy. (examination of cervix, along with collection of sample or biopsy)
If test is negative for HPV, follow up with a Pap test in one year is advised.

Refer to your gynaecologist
Hope this information helps
