My baby is 10 months old and has struggled with constipation on a very predictable schedule, I always count on 1 day constipation with the first day no poop at all, the 2nd day with very hard, dry, pebble like stool, and the 3rd day solid but very soft. Sometimes he gets WILD and throws some diarrhea in there the same day as the soft poop, but not always. Problem number 2 (no pun intended) is that from 6-9 months old he only gained 4 ounces... !?! He was 20 lbs 0 oz, at 6 month well baby exam, at 9 month well baby exam, 20 lb, 4 oz... He has gained 1 whole pound after a very crazy month of very hard work, with calorie counting, careful to consider also fiber content in food, and generally a lot of experimenting with foods. Now then, about the recent development in his poop... He has had no change to his diet, except that around 1 week and a half ago I started to add formula to his food to add calories (he is normally breastfed but silmply still not gaining enough still... Doctor wants a 2 lb increase this month! ) So anyway, the last 4 days his stool has been dreamy... very soft but not runny... cnt figure out WHY, but he just broke the cycle on me all at once. HOWEVER, it smells like a burnt electric wire. Or like, when you're vacuuming and the motor is clogged or something. It is pungent and verrry strange. And now, he is back to his little pebbles again today. WHAT IS HIS DEAL! I am worried beyond worried! It keeps me awake and I am obsessing over his diet and all constantly, to where it keeps me and the children home most the time, for fear he will miss a meal, etc. Boy howdy, when we used to be so very active.
