What Causes Abdominal Pain And Diarrhea Post Appendectomy?

My appendix ruptured and was removed by the larascoptic method 3 weeks ago. I have had loose watery bowel movements 4 to 6 times daily ever since, usually after eating and there is abdominal pain before a bowel movement and a burning during a BM. I had antibiotics for almost 2 weeks after the surgery and have been taking probiotics, organic Greek yogurt, whole grains daily but still have had no change?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and welcome to HCM
I'm Dr. Taimur and I will be addressing your health concerns.
I have read your question and understand your concern.

It is normal to have diarrhoea after any bowel surgery, appendicectomy is one of them, which usually resolve spontaneously in 2 to 3 weeks.
Another cause may be antibiotics which also can cause diarrhoea, (to avoid tablets should not be taken with meals.)
If you develop fever or abdominal pain along diarrhoea you should consult your surgeon, and he should look for other causes of post op diarrhoea.
Meanwhile you should continue use of probiotics and eat healthy diet, and wait till your medications are over as the diarrhoea may resolve spontaneously after it.

I hope this might be of some help, if you have any query feel free to ask me any time.
Thanks.
Dr. Taimur
