What Causes Abdominal Cramps While On Doxycycline?

Hi. I have been on Doxycycline, 100mg, twice a day, for six days. I still have four days to go. I have noticed that my stomach is now cramping about half an hour after breakfast and dinner, which is when I take them. Is this normal please. The cramping lasts for four or five hours.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for this query
Abdominal or stomach tenderness have been described among the sides effects of this drug.Since no other symptoms and since symptoms only last for a short time after taking the drug, i will suggest you just observe. You may add an anti-spasmodic like spasfon to control the cramps. If symptoms continue or other symptoms appear, you see the Doctor for investigation.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
