What Causes Abdominal Cramps And Nausea While Suffering From IBS?

I have been diagnosed with ibs few months back. The doc prescribed softovac powder to be taken daily. However once every month or two...symptoms get worse with cramps, nausea, giddiness and loose stools. Any time i visit doc during this.....he gives me ornidazole-250 mg for 5 days. This has occurred many times in previous months. I hav now stopped all nonveg ...dont eat outside food for fear of infection. Kindly advise what is the actual matter....is it ibs coupled with sibo or sumthing hormone related as i have pcod(40 days cycle) and am 35 years old female.

Hello,
Thanks for asking.

I understand your concern. Your signs and symptoms are suggestive of IBS. First of all for each episode of IBS you can try Oral rehydration solution (WHO approved), it will help you to cope up with water and electrolyte lose and also help to reduce frequency. Secondly you can try short course of amitriptyline hydrochloride 10 mg 24 hourly for 7-10 days. It will regulate your bowel frequency.

For further prevention of IBS acute episode you should change your life style habbits.
1) Avoid spicy and fatty food as much as you can. It can aggravate IBS.
2) Do regular morning exercise and yoga, not more than 30 minutes.
3) Don't eat too much in one meal, Try to eat every 4-5 hourly but in less quantity.

I think that will manage your IBS.

Thanks.
