What Causes A Swollen Tummy And Weight Loss In A Child?

My 2yr old grandaughter has always had trouble wth constipation and has been under her famly doctor, she has been taking medicine for quiet a while. My daughter in law is worried about her taking the medicine and asked for a Consultant to look at her. The first visit he said try a dairy free diet, this did not make any difference. Now she has a very swollen tummy and has lost weight. She has also been off her food the last couple of weeks eating very little. She has also cut another couple of teeth so we thought it might be that. The hospital have taken xray of her stomach, and she will be having some blood tests in the next couple of weeks. As you can imagine we are very worried, have you any idea what it may be?
