Hi my name is Delina and i have a problem. I was walking in my apartment, when suddenly, my knee locked and a small lump appeared on the outer side of my right knee. It hurts to move and I cannot bend my knee or walk. I work-out regularly and go to the gym. please help me identify my injury for I cannot afford to go to the doctor right now. thank you in advance.

Hi! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query. Possibly your knee got sprained due to sudden bending kind of action during your walk, following which you developed a hematoma (collection of blood) around your knee, which could have been also due to a tear in the ligament/cartilage in your knee. If I were your doctor, after a physical examination, I would initially prescribe you with an anti inflammatory drug along with a proton pump inhibitor and apply a pressure bandage over your knee. If it does not subside in 48 hours of time, or if the hematoma increases in size along with an increase in the pain in knee with increasing restriction of movement, I would advise you for an MRI of the affected knee to rule out cartilagenous or a ligamentous injury which would require specialist treatment.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
