What Causes A Red And Swollen Polyp In The Nostrils?

I have a red swollen place inside my right nostril. It is in the top part of my nostril. I am concerned about it, because it looks like what I would call a polyp. I have an appointment with an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor in three weeks. Today I noticed the area on my face beside my right nostril is swollen.
I am very concerned. Any input would be appreciated.
Thank you - Donna

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your symptoms could be due to infection or allergy:

- induced irritation that produce swollen and red mucosa, with prolonged irritation, the mucosa may form a polyp.I would suggest to consult ENT specialist and undergo clinical examination nasal endoscopy and CT PNS scan to know the pattern and extent of polyp.

Following treatment will useful:

- saline nasal wash such as Saltnase/ Netiwash Alkaline nasal douching steroids and anti allergic nasal sprays, oral antibiotic course. If not responds then final option is Balloon Sinuplasty and Office based Micro.

- debrider polypectomy if polyp will detect.

Hope this may help you. Contact further if follow up needed.

Best regards,
Dr. Sagar
