What Causes A Puffy Cheek And The Feeling Of Dryness And Itchiness?
Have been to general pract. and ent with out an answer to my mouth delima. I have a dry puffy inside cheek that sometimes feels like it is scratched or blistered and very dry. Same side of tongue is affected. Cheek kind of feels like a lizard skin purse; textured. Lower back gum is also effected. Salivary gland under jaw bone is sometimes tender. I have had a scan viewed by ent, but with no results to what this may be. I had initially went to dr for sinus ifection. Was put on anitbiotic and steroid. I also am on Atenolol 50mg and increase from 20mg. Now that I am off my second round of antiboitic/steroid symptoms are becoming stronger again. They never fully went away.
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query. As far as the puffy cheek and dryness is concerned it can be secondary to stone in the salivary gland ducts or within the gland. The other possible cause can be a reduced salivary secretion secondary to the drugs you are taking for hypertension. Nothing to be panic, consult a good oral physician and get it evaluated. You need to get a ultrasound scan of the salivary gland and a cross sectional occlusal radiograph done to confirm the diagnosis. Mean while you can use topical artificial salivary substitutes like carboxy methyl cellulose. Keep sipping water. I hope i have answered your query. Take care.
