What Causes A Prominent Vein On The Back Of Head?

My son is 16 years old and has a prominent vein on back of head. He is golfing tomorrow in tournament and just worry about what this is. We went to dr. 1 month ago because skull shape seemed prominent and dr stated it was normal to have variations. Prominent vein now in same area.

Welcome to HCM
This is Dr Amit. Let me help you in this case
As per my opinion there is no need to worry about it as it seems normal to me. If it is causing any problem like pain, numbness, tingling or weakness in that area then we should investigate it further to rule out possibilities like thorasic outlet syndrome, fistula or varicose veins etc by doing couple of test like X-rays of the neck or shoulder, Doppler ultrasound along with physical examination.
Feel free to ask if you have any other query
