What Causes A Painful Lump On The Neck?

Hello I have a small pebble size and basically bean shaped lump on the right side of my neck near the muscles. I do not have any pain or other symptoms. It feels like I can move the bump freely and it is not attached to anything. I used to use chewing tobacco for a few years so naturally my first thought is cancer and kind of panic so I have been rubbing it and constantly feeling the area, which probably doesn t help. What could it be?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Presence of painless lump in the neck area for a long time along with habit of chewing tobacco is indeed something that should not be ignored and should be checked by an expert. Constantly rubbing the area will surely not help in any disorder associated with the lump.

I would advise you to visit your physician or ENT specialist to have a look at the area and examine the lump regarding consistency, size, texture etc. You might have to go through biopsy in order to diagnose the pathology associated with the lump. Based on the results, further advise or treatment can be advised. In addition, there could not be better time to quit your tobacco habit as even if you have free of cancer now, you always run a risk of getting it in future.

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
