What Causes A Lump Type Swelling Above The Ear?
every few years i get a lump type of swelling above my left ear. i was born with a skin tumor when i was a baby but then it got removed. that lump grows right over the scar. i dont know what it is. i went to a doctor and they said it might be a blood clot that comes and goes on its own. it hurts and has slight bruise looking color on it. it also has a red mark that is getting bigger.

From the facts narrated in the query,it seems that you have a infective lump at the scar of the old lump which was excised in your childhood.
The bruise and the redness is suggestive of the re-activated infection at the old lump site.
In my opinion it seems to be-Chronic abscess ? may be with foreign body left out at the time of old operation.
Treatment-
Anti-inflammatory , antibiotics ,cold compresses with the prescription from your ER Surgeon would resolve your issues.
