What Causes A Lump On Lower Eye Lid?

Seeking advice:- 6 month old son has lump near lower lid area of right eye. It is located just underneath outer edge of lower lid but not actually on the eye lash line but lower and only felt when gently stroking area and not visible otherwise. GP dismissive without checking properly and did not state what this was just that babies can have such things and just to leave it. This is not adequate and no explanation at all. Any suggestions as to possibilities and what should I do next to get a concrete diagnosis?

Hi, I m Dr. Richa. I understand your concern .As per your description, the lump on lower eye lid of your kid is collection of secretions within the certain gland of lids. This condition is called chalazion in medical tems and vary from small size to large. As the swelling is very small and not pressing upon eye globe,I will go for conservative treatment in form of warm compression 4-5 times per day with the help of a cloth.Please do it for one month. In most of the cases, small chalazion resolves. If the size is increasing, consult an ophthalmologist. In few cases when it is large and does not resolve on compression, it is removed surgically if needed.I hope I have answered your query. Take care
