What Causes A High MCV In Blood Test?

I had a blood test done and my MCV was 104 one Dr. told me to cut back on alcohol, I had the same test run by another Dr and they asked me how much red meat I ate in my diet, when I told them very little they said that's why I had a high MCV test. A little confusing.

Mean corpuscular volume or MCV is the average amount of space occupied by each red blood cell. Red blood cells help carry oxygen in the blood.
A normal MCV is usually considered to be from 80-100.
High MCV can be due to macrocytic anemia ,due to some drugs, liver disease, hypothyroidism, folic acid deficiency, liver problems and thyroid problems.
