What Causes A Hard Knot In Gastrocnemius Muscle Of Left Calf?
Hello. I have what I think is a knot in my gastrocnemius muscle of my left calf. It worsens during long runs. I do not play tennis or do that type of activity. When I rest it gets better but then comes back. My right calf is also tender in that area, but has caused me no problems to date. Could this be something more serious than just a knot? I really want to finish training for an April 3 marathon. NOT GOING TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSIS OVER THE WEB. THANKS FOR NOTHING
The tenderness of the calf likely indicates that the muscle is inflamed/injured.
Rest is recommended to help reduce the pain, if activity is continued then this would likely aggravate the inflammation so , if possible, it would be best to decrease any aggravating activity.
In addition, the use of ice therapy along with anti inflammatory pain killers may also be helpful. Eg naproxen, ibuprofen, cataflam can be used to help reduce the discomfort.
If there is any swelling, compression bandage and elevation would be needed.
I hope this helps
