What Causes A Growth In The Middle Of The Throat After A Tonsillectomy?

My Son recently had his tonsils removed (on 25th nov) He now has a bad cough and is complaining that something is stuck in his throat. When I looked down i could see a growth mid way down his throat. Is this growth normally there? Or is this a complication from having the tonsils removed do you think. I would appreciate your opinion on this
