What Causes A Drop In The Wbc Count?

Yes,although this might be too complicated for the internet.I was diagnosed with multiple myloma innjanuary, and began chemo in February.I've also been using Filgratsim (Neupogen) since them, and I've seen a steady. drop in my white cell count, until the count was so low over the last two weeks that my chemo had to be withheld.I'm scheduled to undergo a bone marrow biopsy in a week or two.Is there any reason this problem could come about suddenly?Thank you.

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Chemotherapeutic agents given for treatment of multiple myeloma will cause bone marrow suppression.
2. Excessive suppression has led to drop in WBC count and is commonly known to occur during myeloma treatment.
3. Bone marrow biopsy would probably show reduced cellularity.
4. Major worry would any associated aleukemic leukemia. That is the reason, bone marrow is necessary.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
