I went to the GYN for what felt like a huge cyst in my right breast. There has been one there that they have been watching for years, and I thought it may have gotten larger. I was sent to get a mammogram and ultrasound. It seems that the mammogram burst the cyst - I was practically in tears during the mammo. During the ultra sound I saw the small cyst on the screen and what looked like a large fluid area. The tech consulted the doctor and I was told the cyst is the same size it always was. I am very angry, because they never mentioned the huge fluid mass. They never wanted to touch my smaller cyst, but they totally ignored the fact that they burst a huge one. How do I know that my health is not in danger? Both my mother and grandmother had post menopausal breast cancer. I am 48. Thank you.
If at all the cyst was the exact same size it was since the last time it was investigated, then this is most probably a benign cyst with absolutely no cause to raise concern.
If this cyst did indeed burst due to the technique employed while conducting the mammogram then it is indeed unfortunate, but nothing to worry about. The fluid released will be absorbed by the surrounding tissue and released from your body in the form of toxins. I would only request you to wait for a while and go in for another test to check on the same region the cyst burst to see if the fluid has resolved.
Nothing to worry about. Hope this helps.
Best wishes.
