What Causes A Bad Smell In The Scalp?

Hello, lately my scalp has smelled bad... almost like an unwashed pair of pants or underwear, i can smell it when i move my head sometimes and it seems to get worse as the evening goes on. I shower every morning, and have recently started using NIZORAL 2 times a week, but it hasn t seemed to help after 2 washes. My head used to itch a few weeks ago, but stopped since i started using a dandruff shampoo for a couple weeks. now there is no itch, it just start to smell musty and stinky. I am afraid it is the ringworm of the head, but there does not appear to be any rash. I am also afraid this could lead to baldness... what should I do :s thanks for ur help!

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern and following is/are recommended guidelines:

1. The smelly hair syndrome could be due to fungus growing on oily scalp (yeast, scalp psoriasis) resulting in microbial growth so you need to consult a Trichologist to rule out the same and also to exclude any Autoimmune disease of scalp, any hormonal imbalance or Stress, till then:

. try changing your towel/pillow cover.
. tea tree oil has anti microbial properties
which help cure odor caused by scalp
infection.
. apple cider vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice, neem oil, sulfur rich shampoo are some of the home remedies which you can try.
