Hi there,
Welcome to HCM,

Copper T though a very common and effective form of contraception, like all other forms of contraception have a small chance to fail.

1 in 100 is the likelyhood of a women with Copper-T getting pregnant. Unfortunately it has happened to your wife.

Usually the Copper-T failure is seen in first three months of insertion of the Copper-T and the cause is not certain that why it is very effective in some women and why it fails.

If she has got pregnant with a Copper-T in the womb, depending on whether she wants to continue the pregnancy or not, you could decide further management. She could get the Copper-T removed in first 12 weeks of preganncy and stillc ontinue the preganncy. Retaining the Copper-T in the womb is not recommended.

Also she should consider another form of contraception, like oral contraceptive pills .

Hope this helps.
Regards.
