What Causes C.diff Infection?

My grandma has been diagnosed with a stomach bug after 2 months of chronic diarrhea, they are calling it c-spiff (shortened version of the long name) and said it was highly contageous. She lost 15 pounds and had a cringing side pain every so often. Can you tell me the long name or if you have heard of it? Thank you.

A a stool culture and sensitivity should be done and antibiotic therapy should be given for 7 days as per the bacterial sensitivity
