What Caused The Numbness In My Lips, Face, Arms And Legs?

I had a very scary episode the other night where I started feeling really strange, then my lips started going numb and felt huge my face, arms, and legs went numb as well. I almost blacked out and had to get home fast before that happened. As soon as I got home I laid down on my left side and almost immediately all the symptoms went away. I just turned 30 two days ago and I am 5 6 220 lbs. I thought it might be a mini stroke TIA but not sure. I just took my BP and its 152/95 and i have had a ton of heart palpitations, starting to get scared.

Thank you for the query.
I would like to enquire about your gender. As per the history, you are 30 yrs old and have a BMI of around 36 (obese). Transient Ischemic attack (TIA) is a short episode of neurological dysfunction, which occurs due to an interruption in blood flow to the brain (cerebrum). It is reversible, with complete recovery, within 24 hours, but is definitely a risk factor for future strokes. Your recorded BP was 152/95 mm of Hg which is definitely more than the desired range for your age.
In this context, I would advise you to undergo certain investigations like lipid profile, thyroid profile and blood sugar screening (fasting and post prandial blood sugar, since diabetes as a risk factor also needs to be ruled out). Hypercholesterolemia, is a risk factor, for which serum lipid profile is needed. Since, you are complaining of palpitations, a 12 lead ECG is required to rule out any cardiac arrythmia, which can also lead to TIA/stroke.
You must modify your lifestyle. Weight reduction is very important in your case. If you smoke, you need to quit it as soon as possible. Saturated fat restriction is needed in your diet. Since your BP is on the higher side, dietary salt restriction is required, and anti-hypertensive medications may be needed, if your BP recordings are persistently high (preferably your BP should be I would advise you to consult your physician/neurologist since a complete physical examination is needed.
Hope this helps you out.
