What Can Cause Throbbing Oesophagus?

Since July, I have been experiencing what feels like a throbbing esophagus. I recently had a cardiac work up (stress and echo) and all is normal. Over 10 years ago I was DX with a spastic esophagus and treated with Protonix. I am seeing my primary next month. It feels like my esaphgus wants to bust of my chest. Do you know what it could be? Sometimes I cough when I breath deep. Thoughts?

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, you should definitely consult gastroenterologist and get done upper GI (gastrointestinal) scopy for the diagnosis.
By your history and description, possibility of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease).
You are also having cough, this also favours reflux disease.
Along with drugs, you should follow below mentioned lifestyle modifications for better symptomatic relief.
1. Avoid hot and spicy food. Avoid junk food.
2. Avoid stress and tension.
3. Avoid large meals, instead take frequent small meals.
4. Go for walking after meals.
5. Keep 2-3 pillows under head in bed.
Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
