What Can Cause Ear Pain After A Head Injury?

I hit heads pretty hard with another player in a soccer game and have experienced no concussion symptoms only localized pain where we hit and sharp ear pain that comes and goes. I got checked for an ear infection but was cleared. Any idea what could be causing the ear pain??

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain pain in ear after hitting the head hard can be due to traumatic injury to the inside of ear and there is also a possibility that there is a perforation in the eardrum secondary to sudden blow..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and also investigations like Otoscopy and MRI scan can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
In case if there is a small perforation you can be advised to take a course of antibiotics like Amoxicillin, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, take oral and nasal decongestants..
But in case of a large perforation surgical repair known as Tympanoplasty can be required..
Along with it you should also keep a watch and if at all you experience symptoms like dizziness, vertigo, vomiting, breathlessness you should immediately consult an Emergency room as it could be a sign of head/brain injury..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
