This combination is used in the treatment of type II diabetes, to help control blood sugar levels. There are, of course, always risk associated with the long-term use of any medication, but the risk is far greater if you let your conditions get out of control. As a possible side effect this drug is a major cause of drug induced hypoglycemia, and also may cause cholestasis as a major side effect. It does not have any direct effect on blood clotting factors.
