Hi
I appreciate your concern for your wife's
severe vomiting.
I went through the history given in your query it seems to me she is having a condition referred to as "hyperemesis gravidorum" (persistent severe vomiting during pregnancy) which occurs due to hormonal changes.
Constant headaches &
dizziness appear to be due to
dehydration.
Following drugs are prescribed for such condition:
1. Doxinate with Vitamin B6 is the safest drug for vomiting in pregnancy, this you can give it your wife without any fear. If vomiting is not controlled with this drug then,
2.
Ondansetron tablet can be given to her.
These drugs are safe & will not affect the baby.
She must follow the instructions given below to reduce nausea, vomiting, & dehydration like;
1. To eat little and often to prevent
heartburn and nausea. An empty stomach can increase nausea. Try eating small amounts of bland, dry food throughout the day.
2. To avoid hot and spicy or fried foods, and eat less fat in general as they tend to irritate your stomach lining resulting in the production of more gastric acid
3. She should not lie down after a meal. If you move about a bit, you're less likely to throw up the food
4. To take plenty of oral fluids between meals if she is finding it hard to keep fluids down, and limit drinks during meals. Be sure to drink regularly
While this condition is common, and is not usually harmful to her or to her baby. However, severe vomiting can seriously affect you as it can lead to dehydration and
weight loss.
You are therefore advised to:
Consult a gynecologist for proper care like IV fluids.
Get an
ultra sound done to rule out the possibility of multiple pregnancy.
Hope the suggestions given above could be useful.
Regards.
