What Can I Do To Reduce Inflammation In Breast And Yellow Pus In Breast Milk?
Hello doctor,
I delivered a baby on nov 29th 2013. I was breast feeding him and there was no problem for first 2 weeks. Then initially i faced dry nipple problem on both the sides but it got cured now. Now till last week i was ok with the feeding. Last week i got hit in the door and my left breast got hit. But i didnt notice my breast immediately and the same night when i was trying to feed my baby on the left side, the pain was horrible so i fed him in my right side. And the next day i could find inflammation in my breast which was painful. I consulted a general surgeon nearby and she said it is nothing but the milk is stagnant hence there is inflammation. Doct gave me some antibiotics and asked to take hot water massage in the left breast. But even after 4 days of medication the inflammation is still there but i am able to feed the baby. The very next day of my visit from doct when giving hot water massage i can see some yellow puss coming out from the breast with milk. So i completely took out the puss and now the puss stopped coming.
But the inflammation is still there, what should i do now i am very much worried because of this inflammation please guide me doctor ?
HI Thank for asking to HCM I appreciate your concern, this is just not the inflammation but this could be a formation of abscess, this is very common condition among the feeding mother, and this is kind of myth that all the feeding mothers coming to my office with such complain says that they have injury to their breast which is not exactly noticed by us, but in fact this is not true, poor hygiene is the cause, initially it has to be treated with anti-inflammatory drugs only, giving antibiotic in inflammatory phase could turn the lesion in to antibioma, now stop the antibiotic and just have anti-inflammatory drugs let the puss drained completely, you can start the antibiotic after 24 hours, take care and have nice day.
