What Are The White Itchy Bumps Around My Vagina?

I have few white dots growing around Vagina area which shows 2 weeks ago, it doesn't really bother me except sometime can be little inching.
I checked with family doctor today, and she says it doesn't look like warts, but she still send me to dermatologist.
My question is:
1. What it can be?
2. Is any treatment I can do at home before long time waiting period to see dermatologist ?

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

White itchy bumps or dots could be lichen sclerosus, folliculitis with blocked sweat gland etc. Do one STD profile to clear doubt.

I suggest you to apply 1% Hydrocortisone cream locally. You also visit to dermatologist for clinical examination.

Do the following things to keep better genital hygiene:

1) Wear only clean & cotton underwear. Don't wear any tight fitting cloths or pants to avoid repeated friction/ irritation. Remove underwear at bedtime.

2) Avoid using any type of chemical cosmetics or detergent powder/ soap or condoms/ tampons. Do proper shaving & clean genital area with plain water.

3) Do not touch/ wipe out genital area too much. Also avoid inserting objects or douching inside vagina.

4) Take healthy diet with anti oxidant (like Vit-E/ C, selenium, zinc, lycopene etc) supplements. It will boost up your natural immunity.

Hope, I have answered your query. Good luck and take care.

OBGYN Dr. Nishikant Shrotri's  Response
Hallow Dear,

Seems you are having fungal infection. It may be associated with vaginal discharge or could be only on the perineal skin. Please confirm whether you have any vaginal discharge.

Vaginal discharge due to yeast or fungal infection is flaky like yogurt or curds and causes immense itching. It may get stuck to the perineal skin appearing like bumps on the skin.

If there is no vaginal discharge, it could be fungal infection of the skin.

Antifungal ointments locally will give you relief. In addition, please use Lactobacilli perineal wash regularly. Loss of Lactobacilli from the vagina is many a times responsible for fungal infections.

Avoid using any alkaline soap over the affected area.

Clean the parts off the pubic hair.

Use panty liners.

Boil underwear daily.

Observe sexual abstinence till completely cured.

Both the sexual partners should follow the treatment simultaneously.

First report to Gynaecologist to look for any vaginal discharge. If absent, report to Dermatologist.

Please do not try to treat this only with domestic means. You need medical attention.
