What Are The Uses And Side Effects Of Aspirin Tablet?

Last night I swallowed 3 aspirins without any liquid. I was already laying down in bed. I went to sleep, but woke up this morning with a burning sensation in my throat and chest. Eating is somewhat painful. I have been drinking diet coke and just realized that is not the thing to drink right now. I am concerned that the aspirin has caused serious damage!

The aspirin probably caused some temporary damage as it is acidic and you didn't take it with liquid to dilute it. It's unlikely that any serious or permanent damage was done. (I remember doing this as a teen; I choked on the aspirin and caused burning of my voicebox, so was hoarse for a day, but it resolved quickly.) Carbonated drinks are also acidic and you were causing more irritation of already inflamed areas. Avoid such drinks and acidic juices like orange juice. You should be okay in a day or 2.

There is a small possibility that if the aspirin remained in extended contact with the tissue (since you were lying down and sleeping), that small ulcers may have formed in your esophagus. Antacids may help in either case. These may take a few more days to heal up. However, if you continue to have symptoms after a week, I recommend you be seen by your doctor. Hope this helps.
