Hello,
Thank you for your question and welcome to Health Care Magic. I understand your concern.
First of all I would like to ask you if you have any other sign or symptom beside difficulty in loosing weight, such as dry skin, your hands and feet cold all the time, thinning hair, fatigue, trouble losing weight, mild depression, poor concentration and memory, constipation, and more? The above mentioned symptoms may be triggered by subclinical
hypothyroidism.
It is true that weight problems could be related with thyroid
hormone deficiency. Hypothyroidism slows down the metabolism and consequently may cause weight gain.
With such a presentation on my clinic, in addition to your family history of having thyroid disorders, I would like to perform some blood tests in order to determine if you have thyroid hormone deficiency and its etiology.
The blood tests should include Total Thyroxine (T4),
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), Free Thyroxine Index, Free T3,
Thyroglobulin Antibody and
Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (anti TPO).
Beside
thyroid function tests, I would like to perform also a
lipid profile test, and blood sugar.
After evaluating these blood tests, I would be more helpful in giving you a hand on solving your problem.
Hope I answered to your question. For further concerns or follow up questions feel free to ask again.
Kind Regards,
Dr. Ina
