In Keratoconus there is degeneration of the layers of the cornea causing protrusion of the cornea forward in a conical shape due to back pressure from eye fluid behind. Occurs due to allergic disease and genetic disease in most cases. There will be decreased vision, distorted vision, eye pain, increased chance of a serious complication called hydrops where fluid from eye suddenly enters inside the thin layer of the cornea and can cause severe visual loss. Effective treatment for Keratoconus will be contact lens prescribed by Ophthalmologist but best treatment is corneal transplantation.
