What Are The Symptoms Of Herpes Zoster Ophthalmicus?

What are the classic symptoms for herpes zoster ophthalmicus? After going to an urgent care clinic this morning, I was told that the symptoms I am experiencing could be shingles or impetigo. The n.p. is choosing to treat based on an impetigo dx but I seem to be having more pain and tingling sensations in my eyelid than would be typical for that.

Hi and welcome to HCM,

The symptoms of Herpes zoster ophthalmicus[HZO] is a rash, redness around the affected eye involving the upper eye lid and the forehead.
Occasionally the eye itself can get involved, specially the cornea, which can be painful and cause photophobia.
The rash in HZO, is very typical in its distribution over the forhead and distict from the rash in impetigo.
In any case,I would advice you to follow the advice of your treating physician, as he has seen you firsthand.
All the very best health for you and your family!!!
