Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my daughter threw up about a gallon of chunks from what she had today at school on the bus at our stop before getting off the bus. she has heart issues which is an ASD and syncapy at times depending on how much she does. she is acting lethargic and not wanting to eat or really drink but I have taken her brother the er before and he has nothing out of the ordinary wrong with any of his organs and they told me it was a virus. is this what her problem is or could it be food poisoning because she said they gave her a half cold chicken patty at school and it was in the chunks with the milk she had and her sandwich from lunch....?
It is possible that it is a viral infection, this is the most common cause of vomiting and/or diarrhea in children.
Food poisoning is due to bacterial infection from a food consumed, this is also common.
The main aspect of treatment would be preventing dehydration by replacing fluids. Oral rehydration fluids such as pedialyte or sports drinks, would be best. Because of her history of heart disease, you may want to consider having her assessed.
I hope this helps
