What Are The Symptoms Of Epilepsy?

Hello, my brother has had 2 seizures within a 3 day period. Tightening of muscles, jerking motions and far away visual symptoms. Both times he has no recall of what happened. Both episodes last several to tem minutes long with him finally calming down, breathing normal and conscious of his surroundings. The second time the paramedics came, took him to the hospital. The ER doctor never came to talk to us, released him and said it was due to opioids that didn t appear in his urine or blood work. He doesn t take any medications. So how did they deduce it as opioids? And could this be symptoms of Epilepsy?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare medication

If he was not tested for opioids or it did not appear in the results of his blood work or more importantly ,he does not take them, then I am not sure why they concluded this.

Based on the description, he did have seizures but these can sometimes occur is there is an infection or electrolyte imbalance. There are medications that can cause seizures in some persons as well

It would be best for him to be reviewed by another doctor and an EEG done, to determine if he is epileptic
The EEG would determine if there are any abnormal brain waves that would point to epilepsy

I hope this helps
